This machine convinces by its vertical design and the work piece located on top, high technological flexibility, a multiple spindle design and an innovative drive concept. All axes are directly driven and, for the first time, linear motors, which have a considerable influence on the machine dynamics, are used for the X-axes for this machine series. The use of the patented triangular X-slide allows completely independent or parallel machining on smallest spaces.
The simultaneous processing of two identical work-pieces results in highly productive machining. However, if flexibility is a priority, different kinds of workpieces can also be machined on the spindles. To perfectly adjust the production process to customer requirements, the machine can be equipped with either two workpiece spindles (XG 242) or one workpiece spindle (XG 241). By means of the linear and torque motors used, the XG series is characterized by very high overall dynamics and thus outstanding speed. With this machine series, the velocity gain of all the axes is above factor 6, which is a very good indicator for the overall dynamics. But in order to achieve high speeds, not only a fast machine is required but also a fast workpiece feed. Due to a modified pick-up process that compensates by additional loading quills the speed disadvantage of conventional pick-up systems, another additional seconds can be saved of the machine's idle time.
